What is IRS Form 2848?

Edited

IRS Form 2848 is completed and filed to authorize a tax preparer to represent you before the IRS in regards to your federal tax matters. Your appointed representative is not required to possess any professional credentials, but there will be limitations to specific duties they may perform on your behalf if the do not have them.

Once filed, your designated representative will receive copies of notifications and will be the primary point of contact in responding to the Internal Revenue Service on your behalf. As the taxpayer, you still have full rights to represent yourself and may revoke your declaration of representative at any time.
